Cardiovascular and Vascular Manifestations
Nearly 90% of individuals with ALGS have some form of heart involvement. The most common issue is Pulmonary Artery Stenosis, where the vessels carrying blood from the heart to the lungs are narrow.
Other cardiac and vascular features include:
Tetralogy of Fallot: A complex combination of four heart defects.
Murmurs: Often the first sign noticed by doctors during an infant's checkup.
Vascular Risks: Beyond the heart, the syndrome can affect blood vessels in the brain and kidneys. In 2026, specialized MRI or CT scans are routinely used to check for aneurysms or Moyamoya syndrome (narrowing of brain arteries), which can increase the risk of stroke even in young children.
